On 20/05/2019 - Counselling with guest lecturer Asst.Prof. Zvonimir Sabati, Ph.D.

In the premises of the Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec, a professional counselling was held by guest lecturer, Zvonimir Sabati, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin. The expert counselling was attended by the project manager of Living Castles Dajana Maria Horvat, senior development engineer on the project Dora Jovanovska, junior development engineer Josip Škrlec, a member of the steering committee of the project Mihael Kukec, Ph.D. and senior lecturer at the Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec, Nenad Breslauer. The counselling was focused on presenting modern methods and 3D modelling tools, as well as comparing the leading standardized 3D platforms. Assistant Professor Sabati presented to the project team interesting tools for the development of complex 3D models: Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3D Studio Max, Blender and Cinema 4D. The consultation was extremely interesting and useful and the project team got a detailed insight into the tools needed for the realization of the partner demands on the EU project Living Castles.

On 08/05/2019 - Visit to RIS Mansion Rakičan, Murska Sobota

The project manager of Living Castles, Dajana Maria Horvat and project associates Dora Jovanovska (senior development engineer) and Josip Škrlec (junior development engineer), visited RIS – Research and Education Centre Mansion Rakičan in Murska Sobota.

They were welcomed by the Director Robert Celec and the staff member Natalija Cigut. The aim of the meeting was to demonstrate the procedures for video-mapping projections and to get acquainted with the Lumitrix projector technology. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Czech company Lumitrix who demonstrated the characteristics and capabilities of the mentioned technology and work with the web application for processing graphic elements for video projections. Also, the meeting was attended by Danilo Časar from D & C Media, who is in charge of audio video-mapping support. The members of the working meeting have exchanged useful information regarding the realization of the anticipated items of video projection.

At the end of the meeting, two Lumitrix experts calibrated two projectors that will project video content on the facade of the Rakičan Mansion in the future.

On 02/05/2019 - Visit to the Čakovec Museum of Međimurje

The project manager of Living Castles, Dajana Maria Horvat and the project associates Dora Jovanovska (senior development engineer) and Josip Škrlec (junior development engineer) visited the Čakovec Museum of Međimurje. The purpose of the meeting was to agree on the implementation procedures of the requested delivery, more precisely, to develop an expanded reality application for the Microsoft HoloLens. Curator and head of Historical Department Ana Šestak and curator of the Department of History Zoran Turk have introduced to the project manager and development engineers the departments and collections of the Museum. After visiting the Museum, the Museum Director Maša Hrustek Sobočan held a meeting with the project manager, development engineers and curators of the Museum, discussing the possibilities of HoloLens and the characteristics of the requested application.

On 18/04/2019 - Counselling with guest lecturer Asst. Prof. Časlav Livada, Ph.D.

In the premises of the Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec, a professional counselling was held by guest lecturer, Assistant professor Časlav Livada, Ph.D., at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Information Technology in Osijek. The expert counselling was attended by the project manager of Living Castles Dajana Maria Horvat, senior development engineer on the project Dora Jovanovska, junior development engineer Josip Škrlec, a member of the steering committee of the project Mihael Kukec, Ph.D., and senior lecturer at the Polytechnic of Međimurje, Nenad Breslauer.

The consultation was focused on presenting 3D projection and video mapping technologies as well as complementary equipment and software support.

Assistant professor Livada presented the project team members the tools to create animated video content for video content mapping. Also, Livada has demonstrated the functionality of 3D texturing tools and the creation of complex 3D materials called Allegorithmic Substance Painter. The guest lecturer also looked at the photogrammetric procedures of 3D modelling using a series of photos in Autodesk Recap. Asst.Prof. Livada has also covered many other useful tools such as Adobe Fuse and Mixamo, Blender 3D tools and accompanying software additions, etc. The consultancy was extremely interesting and useful, and members of the project team got a detailed insight into the tools needed to realize partner applications on the EU project Living Castles.

On 15/4/2019- Meeting of Project Partners and Managers of the EU project Living Castles Steering Committee

A working meeting was held for project partners and members of the Steering Committee on the EU Living Castles project, starting at 10 am in the premises of the Čakovec Museum of Međimurje. The meeting was attended by all project partner representatives and members of the Steering Committee. In addition to the project partners, the meeting was attended by the senior development engineer Dora Jovanovska and the junior development engineer Josip Škrlec.

On 04/04/2019 - VISIT TO VARAŽDIN CITY MUSEUM

The project manager of the Living Castles project, Dajana Maria Horvat and the project associates Dora Jovanovska (senior development engineer) and Josip Škrlec (junior development engineer) visited the Varaždin City Museum. The purpose of the meeting was to agree on the implementation procedures of the requested delivery, namely, to develop an augmented reality application.

The meeting was held at the Varaždin City Museum Management, where professional associates demonstrated the work of mobile application for augmented reality with the help of a black and white image marker.

After the meeting, colleagues Petra Marincel, Jelena Petković and Ljerka Šimunić from the Varaždin City Museum, have shown the project manager and associates a permanent exhibition of the Museum of Cultural History (located in the Old Town), which has about thirty exhibition rooms with a special focus on dressing and fashion culture through the history.

The work on the palace started as part of the project "Living Castles"

The Čakovec Museum of Međimurje is a partner in the project “Network of “living” castles as a form of sustainable tourism for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage” under the acronym “Living Castles”. Under the project, the SE wing of the Old Town palace will be completed. This truly representative space, which has been statically remodelled over the last few years, would use a five-year thematic exhibition to bring visitors closer to the daily life of the Zrinski family, one of the most powerful Croatian aristocratic families of the 16th and 17th century, and which is the main reason for most visitors to visit the Čakovec Museum of Međimurje.

Construction work started last week and all phases should be completed in the second half of the year. While the work is in progress, museum curators are working on the design of an exhibition that will cover the space for the next five years. The project lasts 30 months, is worth EUR 1,454,671.54, of which EUR 1,236,470.80 is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. In addition to MEV (Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec), the project partners include the Čakovec Museum of Međimurje, the Museums of Croatian Zagorje, the Varaždin City Museum, the Research and Education Center Mansion Rakičan (SLO), the Scientific Research Center Bistra Ptuj (SLO), the Development Agency of Savinja Region (SLO), and Proteus d.o.o. (SLO).

TESTING PROJECT EQUIPMENT

The Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec conducted testing of the Hololens equipment within the EU project Living Castles.

Presentation of the Living Castles project at the International Scientific Symposium of Printing & Design 2019

On March 14, 2019 at 10 am at the Školska knjiga Hall, Masarykova 28, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić opened the International Symposium on Printing & Design 2019, organized by the Faculty of Graphic Arts, University of Zagreb, under the patronage of the City of Zagreb. On that occasion, mayor Bandić presented the Medal of the City of Zagreb to PhD. Vilko Žiljak, emeritus professor, for all the work and extraordinary contribution in the field of science, printing and graphics. Also, sixteen different authors or authors’ groups were presented. This year’s framework categories of conference topics were:

Email literature,
Distance Learning,
Protection of documents and securities,
Project Management in Graphic and Information Systems,
Information and communication systems in graphic arts,
Computer Information Systems and Data Printing,
Multimedia in E-learning,
Expert opinion in printing, design and polytechnics,
Graphic and digital security and data protection.

On the same day, except at the premises of Školska knjiga, the opening of the symposium took place at the Polytechnic Hrvatsko Zagorje in Krapina at 16.00 and nine professional and scientific topics were presented. On the second day, March 15, the symposium continued at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the University of Zagreb and twenty-five topics were planned. The Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec, as the holder of the EU project Living Castles, participated in the conference by presenting the paper entitled “Preservation of Cultural Heritage by Using the Technology of Augmented Reality”. The authors of the paper are PhD Mihael Kukec, college professor, senior lecturer, Nenad Breslauer, senior development engineer at the project, Dora Jovanovska, and junior development engineer, Josip Škrlec. The paper was presented with the aim of promoting the Living Castles project, innovative technologies and design solutions applied to the same, and bringing the topic closer to colleagues from the profession and to the general public. Also, in communication with colleague exhibitors, exchanged useful information focusing on the effective project development has been exchanged, paying particular attention to the trends in the profession, especially to the information on the innovations of the development domain and the areas of visual and graphic design. Dean for Science and International Cooperation of the Faculty of Graphics, Prof. Klaudio Pap, PhD, praised the theme of the project and exchanged contacts with the goal of successful business cooperation in the near future.

12 MARCH 2019 – VISIT TO THE PTUJ CASTLE

Project Manager Dajana Maria Horvat and project associates Dora Jovanovska (senior development engineer) and Josip Škrlec (junior development engineer) and project coordinator Goran Sabol visited Ptuj with the aim of agreeing on program applications to be developed within the project.

The meeting was held at the Ptuj City Board, where HoloLens demonstration was held and ideas on hologram development within the project were exchanged.

After the meeting, Zvonka Lazar Borak has shown her Croatian colleagues a collection of masks and a permanent exhibition, where further exchange of ideas on application development took place.

11 March 2019 – VISIT TO THE MUSEUMS OF CROATIAN ZAGORJE

On 11 March 2019, the project manager Dajana Maria Horvat and project associates Dora Jovanovska (senior development engineer) and Josip Škrlec (junior development engineer), visited the Museums of Croatian Zagorje as part of the project. The aim of the meeting was to agree on the development of application programs and to get acquainted with the history of castles and museums.

In order to get as much information as possible to enable a better approach to the development of applications, the director of the Museum of Croatian Zagorje, Nadica Jagarčec, the director of the Veliki Tabor Castle, Renata Dečman and the head of the Peasants’ Revolt Museum, Vlatka Filipčić Maligec, told legends about the castles, introduced them to their history and gave them a tours at the museums.

Professional associates demonstrated the work of HoloLens and exchanged ideas related to hologram projection in the castle as well as 3D mapping in both castles.
